During the trip to Osaka Castle in Japan, Our colleague Tom noticed some interesting and effective use of cable ties around the site. The following images highlight these instances.
In the image below, for example, you can see a scene from the staircase inside the castle, where black cable ties are used to securely fasten a sign to a stainless steel railing. It’s a simple yet effective solution for keeping it firmly in place.
The cable ties not only provide sufficient strength to secure the sign, but their small and neat appearance keeps the environmental facilities clean and organized. Even if someone notices them, they don’t feel out of place. From the distance shown in the picture, you can barely find the cable ties at all.
In addition to securing signs, cable ties can also be used for hanging signs, as shown in the following photo. By threading the ties through holes at the top of the sign and attaching them to railings or other supports, the signs are easily and securely suspended. This method is simple, and effective, and keeps the signs visible to visitors.
Why Choose Cable Ties?
Before the widespread use of cable ties, sites like scenic areas often used wire or rope to secure signs.
Wire Fastening
The wire was a common choice due to its durability, but it also came with several drawbacks. It is stiff, making it difficult and time-consuming to work with, and it can cause wear and tear on the objects it secures. Additionally, excess wire can pose a risk of scratching visitors, and over time, it may rust, which impacts the overall appearance. of the site.
Rope Fastening
While rope is soft and less likely to damage the objects it secures, it lacks strength, durability, and resistance to wear and corrosion. Over time, rope can fray or loosen, which may cause signs to fall.
In contrast, nylon cable ties offer obvious advantages in terms of safety, strength, durability, and appearance.
The Advantages of Cable Ties
1. Safety
Nylon cable ties, made from nylon 66 or nylon 6, are soft, flexible, and have a smooth surface. As long as the excess nylon tie is properly trimmed, even if visitors accidentally touch it, there’s no risk of injury, making it far safer than wire.
2. Strength and Durability
Compared to rope, cable ties are much stronger, offering excellent tensile strength and resistance to wear and corrosion. Even in harsh outdoor conditions, they maintain their stability over time and won’t loosen or break due to external forces or exposure to the elements, unlike rope. UV-resistant cable ties are particularly effective, as they can withstand sunlight without being degraded by ultraviolet rays, slowing the aging process of the tie.
3. Convenience and Flexibility
Using cable ties is incredibly simple. Just thread the tail through the head’s pawl and pull to tighten. It could fit objects of various sizes because there are numerous cable tie sizes. Even if a mistake is made and you need to undo the cable tie, you can refer to our previous article, How to Undo a Zip Tie Without Tools, to undo it. This makes cable ties a more flexible and efficient solution for use in scenic areas.
4. Aesthetic
Nylon cable ties are small and uniform, ensuring they don’t interfere with the overall appearance of the scenic area. Their subtle design helps them blend in, allowing visitors to focus on the information displayed on the signs without distraction, ensuring effective communication.
Overall, cable ties play a key role in securing signs within scenic areas. They not only enhance the safety and durability of the signs and simplify the fastening process but also preserve the aesthetic appeal of the site, making them an essential tool in modern tourist attractions.
