During our stay at the Sanya Horizon Resort, we were surprised to discover a few ingenious uses of cable ties along the beachfront. Though they’re not very noticeable at first glance, they truly improve both safety and comfort in these coastal public spaces.
1. Beach Terminalia Catappa and Cable Ties
Sunshine, sandy beaches, and rolling waves are what you’d expect from a seaside destination like Sanya. But what surprised me were the thoughtful design details hidden around—— the ingenious use of cable ties. Just outside the Sanya Horizon Resort, you’ll see these trees with wide, dense leaves. From a distance, they look like big green umbrellas that offer shade without blocking the breeze. Known as Terminalia catappa, the resort has planted many of them to give guests natural shade.
However, their branches can be quite low—around 1.7 meters off the ground—so it’s easy to bump into them. To fix this, the resort wrapped foam pads around the sharper parts, then secured them with nylon cable ties. Even though it’s a small detail, it helps prevent bumps and scratches.
2. Cable Ties on the Bench by the Wash Station
Aside from the padded branches, we spotted another use of cable ties near the beach’s wash station. There are metal benches for guests to put their bags or sit down, but the bench legs have a shape that can easily catch a child’s foot, leading to a trip or fall.
To solve this, the resort wrapped foam around the outside of the bench legs and secured it with cable ties. The foam is a cushion, while the ties keep it firmly in place. Though it seems like a simple fix, it’s very practical—especially in a family-friendly hotel like Sanya Horizon, where every safety detail matters for children.
3. Heavy Duty Cable Ties on the Swing
At the beach, there’s a popular high swing that kids love. It may seem risky since it’s set up on a slope, but the design is very safe. The ropes are thick and firmly attached, showing careful planning. To increase stability, several ropes are bundled together with multiple nylon cable ties. This makes the swing stronger and easier for children to grip.
From the photos, it looks like the resort used 12 mm-wide, heavy duty cable ties with a tensile strength of over 110 kg. Even in Sanya’s hot and humid coastal weather, they stay strong and flexible. They are likely UV-resistant, offering both durability and weather protection. Though these ties seem small, they play a key role in keeping children safe while they have fun.
Uses of Cable Ties
At the Sanya Horizon Resort, each cable tie may seem small, but these ties have high tensile strength, can handle temperatures from -20°C to 85°C, and offer UV resistance. Even in a seaside setting like Sanya, they reliably get the job done. They’re often used to secure outdoor facilities and keep everything safe. It’s these simple, low-key “little things” that make a trip feel both safer and more welcoming.
